LifeLine animal shelters host free event to house 840 animals
LifeLine Animal Project is creating an easier way to adopt a new best friend this weekend. LifeLine's DeKalb and Fulton County animal shelters are hosting a four-day Adopt-a-Thon. These shelter are teaming up together and giving families the opportunities to adopt out animals at no charge from now until Monday, July 25.
These shelters have reached their maximum capacity, which simply means they do not have enough room to hold any more animals. LifeLine’s FCAS Director Lara Hudson said, “its shelter is beyond its comfortable capacity”. According to Lara, “the shelters are currently watching over 840 animals all together”. This shelter was originally intended to house only 80 animals at a giving moment, but can comfortably host about 250 animals. As of today the shelter is holding roughly 369 dogs and cats, so now they are asking the community to step in and help save these animals lives by adopting them and providing them a safe and loving home. Not only are they waiving the the adoption fee, but the shelter is also providing spaying, neutering, micro chipping and vaccinations for all their animals.
DCAS Shelter Director Kerry Moyers-Horton said, " that those who can't commit to adoption can foster a dog or a cat. If people can open up their home for even a few weeks, it would be great for the animals in our care,” Moyers-Horton said. LifeLine is working extremely hard to “transform Atlanta into a no-kill community” by finding homes for as many animals as possible. They want to find new homes as soon as possible, because they believe that every animal deserves to have a home and all animals matter.
