One For The Road

One For The Road

"My boyfriend and I lived in an apartment complex with numerous feral cats. We started trapping them and taking them to a clinic a few miles away. We gave them all names so we could identify who came and got food and water that day. The last cat we trapped, walked into the trap and much to our surprise did not trip the trap. My boyfriend went outside and tripped it for her. She was a beautiful black and white tuxedo cat. We named her Oreo.

Success Stories - Diamond In The Rough

by Meals for Pets April 19, 2017

"In July 2011 I came home to find a tiny, dirty, mangy cat curled up in front of my garage door. She ran a few feet away but came right back when I spoke to her. She made herself at home in my garage and it was clear she was not leaving. My pet sitter helped me get her in a carrier the next day and I took her to the vet as a stray as I wasn’t sure I wanted another cat. Nobody claimed her and the vet told me she was already spayed, so she definitely belonged to someone at one time. She tested clean and after a few days I picked her up.

Save Our Strays VT is a small volunteer pet rescue/adoption in rural Vermont with a tradition of Christmas Day visits to hospitals and nursing homes. Kittens Under the Porch

Kittens Under the Porch

by Meals for Pets November 29, 2016

Last year when I walked outside, I heard sounds coming from the opposite side of the house. So I walked across the yard to check it out. Sitting under the downspout in a perfect row were four little blue-eyed kittens looking up at me! Their mother had kept them under our front porch.

The Cat That Chose My Daughter

The Cat That Chose My Daughter

by Meals for Pets November 15, 2016

Our 19-year-old cat passed away. She was mostly my cat, and I said I didn't want another, at least not right away. But my adult daughter Sarah really wanted—needed—a cat, so she, her dad, and I went to the shelter. Early on we looked at a 3-year-old named Sassy, who reached out and grabbed Sarah's shirt as if to say “take me.”

Husky Heaven is Our Heaven

Husky Heaven is Our Heaven

by Meals for Pets November 04, 2016

I rescued my first Husky in the early-90's from a pound. It was a love-hate relationship as I learned about the breed. Since getting married, my wife and I have rescued 6 more, over the last 25 years. They've ranged from 6-months to 8 years old.

My Trucker Dog & My Best Friend

My Trucker Dog & My Best Friend

by Meals for Pets October 13, 2016

I had known a few people that had this handsome boy. They weren't wealthy and he wasn't taken care of. His name is Vino. I was a truck driver, and I wanted him on the truck with me, so I had gotten him from my friends. When I had gotten him in the truck with me, he was so skinny. He was infested with fleas. My poor boy wasn't happy and was always scratching. But yet he seemed so happy about being on the truck with my husband and me. We had gotten him a ramp to get in and out of the truck without us lifting him up.

by Meals for Pets September 26, 2016

Chloe came to us from a puppy mill situation. She was in a run in a barn in rural Ontario with no heat or hydro. The people who took her out of there believed that the dogs were never let outside the barn. She was around 4 ½ years old.

Tomfoolery and Halo are Rescued!

Tomfoolery and Halo are Rescued!

by Meals for Pets September 23, 2016

Tomfoolery (Tom) came into our lives a few months after our cat Poppy disappeared. My mom decided she was ready to move on, so she went to several animal shelters and Adopt-a-Pets. A few cats struck her interest, but none really clicked with her, so she kept looking. At a local animal control center, she found Tom. He was in a cage in the corner, and all she could see of him were big yellow eyes and a black and white nose peering out. When she asked the volunteer if she could pet him, the woman was ecstatic.
